computer in basement?

Hello and thanks for any answers I receive. I want to move my computer and books from my den to the basement. However, in the summer the basement is a bit humid. I already have a big-screen TV and VCR down there, and I haven't had a problem with either one in 4yrs. Will the humidity hurt the computer? Would it solve the problem if I put a dehumidifier down there with it? I don't have a/c.

The computer should be fine down there, as long you don't have any condensing humidity.

I had several computers at my old house in an unfinished basement for 5 years with no problems. My new house has a finished basement and the new computer is down there and running just fine. As long as you don't have a lot of moisture, you should have no problem.

If you are normally in the habit of turning the computer off, you might also leave it on all the time; doesn't draw a lot of power and you won't have to worry about condensation.
