Problems with my dvd drive

I got a little prob with my dvd drive. It worked fine for the first 5 months, but now it started acting up for no apparent reason. When I put a dvd or regular cd-rom in it, it has trouble reading it. Also, it wont spin the cd at the same rate as it used to,(it makes this low growl-like hum when it tries to spin the cd.). And, sometimes, it wont even recognize the cd at all.
If anyone can tell what the heck is going on with this thing, I will be eternally grateful, because it's really starting to get under my skin, quite frankly. Thanx in advance for any help you guys can offer.

Have you tried on of the over the counter cleaning CD’s? Bet it just needs to be cleaned…

If it does turn out to be the motor or the read head you can probably get it covered under a warrenty. Most manufactures will cover it for a year but you may have to hunt their websites for info. Most likely they will require you to send them the drive before they will send you a new one or repair yours.
