eraseing data from computer

Recently purchased a new system and will give this one to grandkids. How can I clear memory and erase files before they read everything I have done?

Depends on how many "things" you want to get rid of. Personally, the best way is to format the drive (which wipes EVERYTHING) and then reinstall the operating system and whatever programs you want to put back on it. Only catch here is that you need to have disks for the operating system and programs in order to reinstall and, of course, you need to be knowledgable enough to perform the operation.
