Acer Modem Drivers

Have been advised by my "ISP" to get an updated driver for my Aopen 56k internal modem. The update file is identified as :fm56sw9x.exe. When I download this to "MY DOWNLOAD FILE" and attempt to execute, it simply breaks down to the various subfiles but they appear to remain in the "MY DOWNLOAD FILE" and don't activate any associated drivers in the modem.
Would appreciate any help here.

After exe'ing the file try going to devices, selced the modem and go to properties, (dbl click or right click) then click on update drivers. tell it you have disk, then browse to your download file where the newly created folders are. that should be it.

sounds like what you down loaded was aself extracting zip file. opening this file does not install the drivers, rather it just unzips the file for you (in the curent directory).

Brian, thanks for the response. I am using Windows 98 and can't follow you on "Go to devices" I would normally go to Start,Settings,Modem but can't find any reference to Update Drivers.
Regarding the second half of your reply, I suspect that you are correct - the file was unzipped and appears to have remained in the My Download file.
Can you assist further ?

Sorry,

Click Start, settings, control panel, then systems.
This should bring up system properties, one of the tabs should be devices or device manager, or hardware. (some one answer me this, how can you go to a screen 1000's of times and still not remember what all the tabs are?) Once you get to the device screen (some what long long list that are expandable.) You should see one that is for the modem. follow previous instructions from here.

OR when you open the control panel you should be able to update the drivers for the modem from here. look for the modem icon (same place you do modem tests from)

G'luck
