closing down

hi all..
when closing down windows 98 sometimes it closes down as it should..but other times after clicking the shut down button the screen goes completely black and all i have on it is a flashing cursur bar in the top left corner.
it will not shut down..i have to shut it off with the button or restart it.
any help would be appreciated.

There is a patch on Microsoft's page that solves the shutdown issue. Using your Windows Update icon on your start menu, go to their site, select Product Updates. Under Recommended Updates, it will have the needed patch for Windows second edition. Also, make sure you fully close all programs running in the background before trying to shut down Windows. I hope this helps solve your problem.
