fatal arrors while trying to open solitaire
#1

I have windows 98 and everytime I open solitaire it causes a fatal error and takes away all of my stuff that sits down by my clock. The only thing it will leave there is my time and volume. I can still play solitaire but it is not the way it should be.

You didn't say whether Win98 SE or not but I think Win 98 FE has Configuration Utility also.Details of the FE would also be helpful.Without details I would start by going to START,RUN,type"msconfig" without the quotes.Ths will take you to the startup utility.Choose SELECTIVE STARTUP.Uncheck all boxes except:a. ScanRegistry
b. SystemTray
c. LoadPowerProfile (Usually twice)
d. TaskMonitor
APPLY,OK,will be prompted to restart.Must restart for changes to take effect.
Bring up solitaire to see if FE is cured. Before we go into what to do next, see if this has helped. If it has not helped go back to msconfig recheck all boxes and reboot.Get back with the details of FE.
b. SystemTray

d. TaskMonitor
APPLY,OK,will be prompted to restart.Must restart for changes to take effect.

But......if you have not rechecked any of the startup items you have disabled you are missing some functions. They may not be important to you and some may be.What you have is a clash in probably one of the startup items. You can isolate the one by adding one item at a time and rebooting.Bring up solitaire and see if you get the FE.If you don't, recheck the next item and so on.You should come across 1 that is the culprit. If you must fix it get back with what it is and any FE @ numbers.Works calender reminders and other date sensitive programs seem to be a lot of trouble.....Mike
