LockUp Problems

Working on an Acer K6-233 for a friend and it locks up on the boot during Acer's boot screen. Sometimes I can get into the bios before it locks up and freezes. Seems to be going through the enitial boot stuff fine. I had to replace the fan which was going bad. Before replacing the fan I was able to get it to boot up and run.

My thought was the CPU may have overheated and is damaged and replacing the fan just worsened the condition by jostling it.

I have tried switching the HD, RAM, and have pulled the bios battery. No avail.

So, any other ideas beyond a bad CPU?

Maybe(s): moved jumper, voltage regulator: bad/heat, L2 cache, PS, CMOS power management.
