Isetheby, about the Gateway........

Subjective call.

If you know how to put a PC together, may not be a good buy.

If you can't build one, do some more window shopping. Don't forget about other manufacturers. Try to compare apples to apples,,,,, not easy from different manufacturers.

Best luck for you finding a "Good Buy".

The biggest drawback to Gateway, Dell, Compaq, and all the other manufactured computers is that at some point they use proprietary hardware.

Fwiw, I would recommend that you go with a computer that has a brick and mortar store in your area. The reason for this is that should anything go wrong you have a place that you can walk into to talk to a real live person.

Personally, I recommend Dell. If you absolutely must buy your computer online, I recommend Dell. My experience is that Dell are generally better quality computers for the price. This is also what I do a majority of my work on.

Also you may want to check out the Cappuccino CG-1 . The entire computer is about the size of a CD player and only weighs 1.9 pounds.

bluwcanary is right. It is purely a subjective call.
