closing start up programs

Hello,
when i hit ctr,alt,del, and the close programs box shows what is running. there is like 13 diff programs running in the background. my ? is. how do i shut certain ones off completely.they all come on when i turn pc on. i would like only the ones running that are neccessary to.which ones need to be up and running at startup thanks.
thanks for the printer help. i did not solve that one yet

There's a couple of ways to do this. The quickest is to click <Start> <Run> Type in "msconfig" w/out the "".

Or click on <Start> >Programs< >System tools< <System Information> <Tools> <System Configuration Utility> to the >Startup< tab.
In here you will find everything that is set to open on boot up. Un check what you want but beware! The wrong thing disabled and you are trouble shooting...
