no sound on computer
I was wondering why I keep losing the sound on my computer.
I have a gateway about 1 yr old and sometimes after I have been on it for a while I lose my sound. I have tried the restart and shutdown. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I defrag and use disk cleanup. Thank you.

Let me guess, you have the Boston Acqustic Digital speakers. If it is what I'm thinking it is your sound card settings. Gateway has its sound card detect wether the speakers are digital or analog. That way they can ship whatever speakers they want with any computer. However, that autodetect is only about 60 accurate. You need to go into the sound card settings in device manager and set the default to the type of speakers you have. If you can't find the setting you may need to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and run the update program to get the latest SoundBlaster drivers.

On that page is a link called "Product Updates" Clicking on this starts a Microsoft Update Program which checks to see if all your software is current. It then gives you a list of possible updates you can install. The SoundBlaster driver should be near the bottom of this list.
