Does anyone know of a program that I can buy/download that enables me to burn AVIs or MPEGs to a CD-R that is compatible in my DVD player?

You are looking for a VCD (video CD) software and for this you will need to use either mpeg1 or 2 files only. Roxio 5 offers you the ability to create VCDs from Mpeg files. I suspect there are others. Also, you will need to check the DVD player to see if it accepts VCDs.

Nero Burning Rom does it too. Only MPEGs though. I tried a freeware utility that converted AVI to MPEG. 2 hours later, it converted the first 15 seconds of the movie to MPEG. That was on my old 450 Pentium. My new AMD 2100XP should handle it in 2 seconds now!
