What ice melt for decks and porches

Hi,

Does anyone know of an ICE melt that is safe for decks or porches. My is new and has not been treated with stain yet.

Thanks

The sun, or a propane torch. I certainly wouldn't be throwing any chemicals on a wood deck -- bare, stained, sealed, or not.

Next spring, get out and seal the deck. Use a quality sealer, like Superdeck, Wolman, etc., depending on what's available where you are. Stay away from things like Thompson's. (If you aren't paying $25 to $30 per. gal., you don't want it!!

If you need to clear off steps or something to use during the winter, denatured alcohol. It is a pretty expensive way to de-ice, but it will not harm the wood. Also works well on brick and other surfaces you do not want to put salt on.
