Are plans available for a freestanding deck? We live in military housing and would like to build a platform deck which would sit on top of the lawn area. The ground is almost always soggy, so our chairs sink in quickly! Installing prefab concrete footings would be fine, but everything needs to be (re)movable.

I once saw plans in a Sunset magazine for wooden deck "slabs" that could be moved around and set upon a bed of gravel. They may have been used as joining walkways. Any ideas or tips for something similar for a deck? The decking doesn't need to be very large perhaps a 5x8 foot rectangle, which could be separated in two or three sections. (Just large enough to hold a small portable fireplace, and a few chairs.) We want to enjoy sitting outside around our fireplace, but we don't enjoy it for very long when the ground is damp and squishy!

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Cindy -
There is an easy "Simple Sundeck" plans at www.todayshomeowner.com website. The deck is built on concrete piers that you can buy at different home suppliy stores. Two day project. Hope that helps!
