Is there any advice on installing a diagonal flooring on a deck instead of horizontal?

By diagonal, I assume you mean running the decking boards at 45 degrees to the joists rather than perpendicular. If so, make sure you put your joists on 16" centers, rather than 24". Reason is that the decking boards will have a greater span, and using 24" centers for your joists would leave you a very springy deck. So you will have 1/3 more joists to buy and install, and it will take a little more decking, as there will be more waste.

Lefty just said it all. Make sure you get about 1/4 inch spacing between each board.
Good Luck
