I need ideas! My father just put in a new deck. We shopped for baby gates for the 93inch stair way opening, so my 13month old son doesn't fall. We found one that would be a permanent fixture with a 18inch opening for visitors to pass through. Everyone that has used this gate says it is very unstable. We would like to build something ourselves. thinking of two swinging doors what is the best way to do this? We would like to match everything up.

First off, why a 93" opening? Getting any sort of a gate (or pair of gates) to span that will be difficult at best, and they will sag terribly withing a few years. Reduce the opening to no more than 48" and add double gates to that. You'll have an easier time finding them and be much happier with them in 3 years.

You could go with the wider openiong and then put rubber wheels on the end of each gate to keep the sag out. This will leave a track mark on your deck though.

I agree with narrowing the opening.
