i am building a 16 X 40 free standing deck and can't find any help on how far my concrete piers should be spaced? Help?

If your locality has building code enforcement, they will tell you when you submit your plan. If you do not live in an inspection area, I usually place my posts/piers at no more than 10' apart, but it depends on the material you are using. 2x12 spans much farther than 2x8.

My company build alot of decks. I have found that I have less problems when I put the pier spacing every 4 or 5 feet. The customers like it also. It keeps the deck very sturdy and tight for years to come.

band joist lengths?/decking spacing?

hello, my deck is 20x12. how long should the band joists be in regards to showing the butted seams? as long as possible as long as they are straight? or can you not get away with hiding the seam(s)? also, i read here 2 guys prefer a 16d nail spacing while another didn't space. i'm laying them diagonally and i read a quarter inch - why so much? what would happen if i didn't space my diagonals? thanks alotRead More

I am contemplating building a deck over an existing low slope roof but cannot seem to find any information on preparing the roof to best prevent future leaks and attachment methods to avoid the same.
