octagon hot tub deck
#1

Hello, I am looking for information on building a deck witch will have a octagon hot tub set in the deck. Joice configuration is my problem. The tubs weight sets on the ground not the deck.

I am assuming that you want to run the deck boards parallel with each side of the hot tub, and that you will be using 2X6 decking. Build the deck around the tub (set the tub in place first), and lay your joists out from the center to the outside. First joist should be at the center of the tub, perpendicular to that edge of the tub. Next one, on each side should be at the corner of the tub, or 24" away, whichever is closer. Joists that will fall into the diagonal side of the tub should be 16" on center, max, and parallel with the first joist. When you get to the sides of the tub that are parallel with your joists, fun your joists at a 90 degree angle to the first joists. Draw it out on paper first -- depending on the size of your tub, you may be able to use fewer joists. Just don't let your deck boards span more than 24".
