you can l bracket them to the face of the header or slip them under the header and attach to the sides of joists.

Or use a pressure block. It's the cheapest and quickest way that I know.

A pressure block is a scab attached to the ledger and then the stringer is nailed or screwed to the block and toenailed to the ledger.

Question

I also am about to attach a stringers made from 2X12PTs. My rise is 6.5inches and my joists are 2X8. There is very little nailing/screwing space for attaching the stringers to the 2X8. I was thinking of attaching a 2X12 to the 2X8 to allow for more space. Any thoughts?

Question

Is 6.5 inches okay for rise? My height is 39.125 inches; it was the only way to get a consistent rise based on 6 steps.
