I was reading on this site about installing a deck and I'm a bit confused about how the ledger is fastened to the wall (house). I'm not sure what is behind the wall that I want to attach the ledger to (the wall is stuccoed) and the deck won't be high enough to attach where the floor joist are. The article mentioned if you don't have something solid to screw into you should use the "bolt & blocking" method. What exactly does that mean?

I would not put a ledger board on a stucco house. I would put up 4x4 posts, and bolt your joist ledger on to them. One post every 5 feet. Use 2x8 ledgers, with one on each side of the 4x4's. Since you really gave very little information about your deck, I assume it is a very low deck. Good Luck. This is what the bolt and block system is.
