Question

I'd like to add some stairs to my deck, but I'd like to make them 11' wide. Is there a simple way to do this other than pouring an ugly concrete slab and setting the stringers on the slab? I was planning on installing stringers every 16".

Could you offer any recommendations?

You don't need a slab, but you would need some kind of support in the middle areas for that span. 16" centers is a bit of an overkill, but if you want to go through the work and extra material, the stair will be stout.

I assume that you want a clear 11' opening which would not allow for a center railing/post? If you could go for that, then you would have the center support that you need.

I've placed treated lumber on its side before as a kind of footing. Have you considered digging 12x12 holes, filling with quickcrete, and placing a 2x10 block flat over them?
