Red cedar deck, 2 yrs old, needs to be cleaned. My deck builder told me to powerwash before refinishing. I've been told this isn't necessary by nonexperts, that there is a cleaner that works just as well. My goals are presevation and to keep the beautiful color. Cost is not a factor.

Check with a local paint store that carries the sealer you will be using. See what their recommendations are. Personally, I would powerwash the deck. That process will drive water into the wood and could affect the performance of the sealer.
