Question

I would LOVE some tips on putting in my own flagstone or brick patio. It will probably have hard edges/corners and will be somewhere between 10x10 to 20x20. I've been told it's relatively easy, but haven't found a comprehensive website that offers directions. Would it be better for me to hire a contractor or is it feasible to buy the materials and do it myself? Any insight you could provide would be much appreciated.

Put down a bed a sand a couple or three inches deep, lay your pavers on that and fill in the joints with more sand. For an edge, either use P.T. 2X4's, redwood 2X4's, or pour a concrete edging about 3" deep and 3" or 4" wide. If you use wood for the border, you are pretty much restricted to staight line edges. Concrete, on the other hand, will allow you to free form whatever design you little wife desires!
