To nail or screw. ??
I'm installing a 16'x25' deck using 2"x4" western red cedar. The two options open to me are
1) nail using HDG ring shacked nails (1 per board or 2 per board??)
2) Screw using 3" zinc Electro plated screws.
I'm concerned with rusting & the quality of the surface finish. Does any one have experience of using either & which would you
recommend?
Many thanks
Gerry

Use stainless steel nails or screws in your cedar. Electroplated fasteners are not as good as hot dipped.
Always use at least 2 fasteners per board where it connects to the joist.

Tannic acid in the cedar sometimes reacts with galvanized fasteners to cause staining, so stainless steel fasteners are preferred.
