I just bought a small log cabin with a deck that needs to be replaced. It is in snow country. I have heard about TREX but dont know anyone who can give any detalis other than it is very expensive.

Trex, or any of the other composites that are available, aren't that much more expensive than any wood that you would want to use on a deck, especially when you factor in the cost of stains, water sealers, and the time needed to install them (and redo them every few years) that you need with wood. Properly installed, the composites won't split, twist, warp, or rot.
