We have finished the cleaning part, and have purchased a stain with UV protection. However, several of the railing boards have large splinters. What is the best way to treat nails that are popping? Also, do we need to waterproof? We did not have too much luck in the past with Thompsons or Behr.
Thank you for any help.

I don't think the nails should be popping. Do you know what the deck is made of - pressure treated, cedar, TREX, ????

I'd drive some deck screws near the nail pops. Then hammer the nails back down.

It sounds like pressure treated that has gone too long without protection. If the splintering is real bad, consider replacing the rails.

I need some help re: preserving wood siding. I used a product called Wood-Life many years ago on the cedar siding on my house. I was told to put it on the front and back of the siding. I am re-siding a section, and am trying to find the product, but can't seem to locate it. Do you know the manufacturer, or where it is available?
