Pea Rock bed w/mortar added
The side of my house where my boat lives is bare and sometimes muddy. I've considered pouring a concrete slab (20'X8'), but it would infringe in my swale.
Now someone suggested that I dig out 4" of dirt fill with Pea Rock. Then if I want I can spread morter over the rock, wet it and have a Pea Rock slab. Does this seem like a good idea? Would the slab hold up? Thanks for any suggestions!

While the 4" of pea gravel, compacted right, could support a boat, the mortar idea will just cause a big mess. The mortar spread will just crack apart. Your friend is probably thinking of asphalt emulsion pavement. Think of a pavement mid way between stone and full-blown asphalt. This is a compacted pavement material; a bit more extensive than hosing down some mortar.
