Question Beam to beam support

I have removed an old screened in patio and I am in the process of closing the new one in and putting a new roof on it. My question is has to do with the beams. On the corner where the two beams meet to make a 90 degree 2(2by8) nailed together. The span is 9 ft. These two beams will be resting on a 4by4. That is the plan now. Should I just use a 6by6 instead? Or should I just create a lap joint. I am just not sure which method would be the best and strongest.

KevinB,

Your 4x4's will be sufficient for this..no problem.

Good Luck!
