Question enclosing underneath a porch

We have a splitlevel house with a 10x14 porch/deck in the back (basically the 2nd floor) that's open underneath. We want to enclose under the porch for storage space.

The floor of the porch are pine(?) boards with small gaps between them. We'd like to put something as a 'roof' underneath so that the storage space won't get rain/snow dripping inside.

What can we use for the 'roof'? We were told that shingles or plywood sheets underneath would add too much weight. Corrugated roofing isn't available around here. We know whatever we use would need to be on a a slight pitch so the water runs off. We're thinking of 20" strips of aluminum flashing nailed to the support beams (with some shims to create the pitch). Would that be workable or is there something else we should consider?

Thanks!
