Patio Cover Question

Not sure if this is the area to post this but here goes. I have a 12X16 brick patio and it is deadly in the sun during the day. I was looking for a canopy to install to give shade. Question is, what type of cover would be best. I have used the blue tarps from my local home depot on other projects in the past but after prolonged exposure to the sun they became very brittle and tore very easily. Wouls I need a heavier grade tarp or a vinyl type or canvas. Obviously would need it to be waterproof. Would only use it for about 2-3 months out of the year and would remove it for the winter months. I see that some say they have an average life of anywhere from 12-36 months. I would assume that is continuous use.

kuma2002,

Wouldn't it be better to install a retractable. It will last for years and avoids the continual buying an unsightly tarp ever 1 or 2 years? Don' knw what size you need but I'd look it as an option.

Or quit wasting you money on the tarps and get an aluminum patio cover.
