Should I lay a patio?

I am a first time homeowner and was thinking about laying a patio in my backyard. I have basic home skills, but I have never used concrete before. Is this job something I can learn and do myself, or should I leave it to an experienced professional?

Rather than concrete, mortarless paving is an excellent DIY project that you can handle yourself. Take a look:

Patio

Chris,
Will the mortarless patio hold up well? I would hate to put alot
of time and effort into a pation that sinks and moves when I walk on it.
Thanks.....

They build driveways with this technique. I have a mortarless patio, not real big, but just the same. It gets pounded with the runoff from the roof, and the stampede of dogs and people all the time. It sits on the dirt and has grass to hold it together. Not even put in right! It has been in place for 25+ years. I am planning a new walkway from the house for early next year using this technique.

Here is some commercial sites that espouse this technique, just for the reading.
