Patio Layout

I'm laying out a patio that will have the shape of a circle segment. That is, the foundation of the house should be considered the straight edge of the segment. And the outside edge will be a circular arc.

I want to position the concrete form for the outside edge (cirular arc) in as smooth an arc as possible. It seems that if one knows where the center point along the straigth edge is (X) and the width of the arc (Y) one should be able to locate points along the arc to place the form. But I don't have such an equation handy.

Am I on the right track and, if so, does anyone have an applicable formula?

Thanks for your help.

A stake at the center of the straight segment with a string of the appropriate length attached can be used to describe an arc of the the required shape. Just draw a line in the sand, as it were, and place forms as needed.

Hope this helps.
