Question Attaching a deck to a house?

This is my first deck, so this question may seem very basic to most of you...

I have a 12' board that my builder nailed to my house for the deck. My question is: When I go to use my lag bolts to attach it better to the house, do I just go through the floor joists or do I need to do something different such as run 2x4's through the joists and attach to them?

Thanks!

Montiman.

The way to do this is to install lag screws 1/2" X 3 1/2" @ 2'-0" O.C..

When you are ready to do your deck, you will be using the approrpiate size joist hangers if the joists are running out from the home. Don't forget about flashing and I hope that has already been applied and is lapped under the siding directly above your ledger.

Hope this helps
