joist hangers on outside rim joist

Hi - My deck has joists perpindicular to the house and the outside rim joist nails to the joists. Is there any reason why joist hangers might serve a pupose in this situation?

Thanks,

Whoever built the decks owns stock in either Simpson or USP. Other than that, I can't see the need for the hangers! (This is assuming that you have a beam or girder PARALLEL to the back of the house, within 2' of the rim joist.)

No, I don't own any stock in either of those places, so I'll leave them off! Thanks
