Spacing between mahogany decking?

I am about to put down my 1X4 mahogany decking on my covered porch. I would prefer to install them without space becuase I do not want water to drip below the deck because I have "outdoor" storage area/trench around my basement. I thought that since mahogany was weather resistant and the fact that I have a roof over the porch would allow me to do so. Sometimes rain does get the porch a little wet but only when there is a "driving" rain. Do I need to have space between the boards? Any advice would be great. Also, would you receommend nailing or screwing the deckding down?

I would treat the mahogany just like any other wood. If it's warm and dry when you install it, gap it. When it gets wet, it will swell. If you were installing it on the wettest day of the year, it's already swollen, so the gap probably isn't necessary.

If you are concerned about keeping the stuff under the deck dry, install a system like UnderDeck.
