I have a back courtyard that is about 300 sq ft. It currenty has a thrown-together mix of several different kinds of flooring (some bricks, some stone slabs, some concrete). i'd like to cover the whole thing with gravel, sort of parisian-style. my questions are: 1. do i need to remove the current flooring, or can i just put gravel over it? 2. if i need to remove it, will a 10 lb sledge get the job done or do i need a jackhammer? 3. if i remove it, whats the best way to prevent weeds etc from coming up thru the gravel? 4. either way, about how much gravel should i apply (i guess how many inches deep)? 5. whats the best way to create a boundary to keep the gravel in? thanks!
