deck railing
can someone tell me what is the best way to connect the posts to the deck floor so to put a rail? I don't quite understand thee newel post how does the top and bottom rail connect to these these posts.

If you didn't run your supports through to the top, and will be adding newel posts and balusters, and the decking is already down, I would suggest cutting the newel posts 8" longer than needed, then notch this 8" cutting lengthwise in half and removing that half, leaving a portion that you can run down the side of the deck and bolt to the rim joist with carriage bolts in two places each. From this you can attach a bottom rail and top rail, then your balusters, and finally your handrail.
