pool deck stair ideas

Last summer, we built a pool deck for my above ground pool and we had built some temporary stairs to access it. Now I would like to get some ideas on some lightweight (but sturdy) stairs that either fold upwards which can act as a gate for the pool deck or light enough to take down when the pool is not in use.

The height of the pool deck is from the foot of the deck to the ground is ~ 68 inches

No advertising intended, so with that said, go to http://www.chandlerscarpentry.com and click on "projects two" and scroll to the bottom. I built this one with a set of steps and a lockable gate. I am sure you are looking for security. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

Flashing to Deck under Sunroom

Hi, I attached a ledger board 3 inches below my sunroom which is built on top of a deck. I have 2 - 6 ft sliders and siding the rest of it. I took off the old trim board and lowered the new ledger board of the new deck 3 inches for drainage. My question: How to I get the flashing between the sliders/siding and between the old deck. I bought a 20 ft by 8 inch roll of copper flashing at Lowe's. I really want to get under the slider/siding and down the old ledger of the old deck and wrap it over the new ledger board of the new deck. Also, if I can get under slider/siding how far do I need to go 1/4 inch, 1 inch, etc. Any solution would be greatly appreciated. ThanksRead More

Wobbly post using simpson post base

On my new deck build, 3 of the 14 posts are a bit wobbly. They are all 6x6 PT posts ranging in height from approximatly 3' to 4' and rest on a 12" diameter concrete footing and are tied to the footing using simpson post bases anchored to a J-bolt. They are held in place using a washer, lock washer and a nut. 11 of the 14 posts are extremely stable, yet 3 are wobbly. It appears that there is about a 1/16" front-to-back rocking movement under the post base, which translates into a much larger rocking motion at the post tops (approximatly a 1/4" front-to-back movement at the top). Side-to-side is very stable. I've tried tightening the base's nuts and resetting the posts and I still get the wobble. The footing, j-bolt, base and post are all level, but I still get the wobble. It's not much and I'm not sure if it's a cause for concern, but I would sure hate to build the entire deck and it become a major problem. Do you have any suggestions on what to do? I was planning on replacing these 3 post bases with new ones thinking there may be a defect, but wanted to pose the question before I went through the trouble. Thanks in advance.Read More
