Treat this??

Does this deck need to be weather-proofed or treated somehow? I mean, do the supports need to be treated? If so, what should be used to treat it?

It would be bad if the deck started rotting or something.

Thanks for your advice.

The wood itself is pressure treated, buy you will want to do a maintenance item by using a decking treatment. There are several names, some liked by the pros, and some not so liked. Behr makes one, Thompson's makes one. Just check with a paint store (not a paint department in a big box), and go with their recommendations for your area.
The only thing that concerns me is the apparent lack of fastening to the main structure. Look under the deck to make sure they are there. You should have 1/2" x 6" carriage bolts holding the ledger to the house. I just can't see them, and it may just be the picture.
It looks as if you have a composite deck topping, so you should be ok with that.

Thanks very much for the advice, chandler.

Glad to hear that the wood is already pressure treated.

Are you suggesting I should use decking treatment on the supports, or on the deck surface itself? (I think the deck surface is a kind of composite/fake wood, and doesn't need any treatment).

I will look more closely about how the deck is fastened to the main structure.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
