Help! Auger stuck!

We are in the middle of doing holes for the privacy fence with the one man auger, and the auger is stuck in the ground. We have rocked it back and forth and done everything else we can think of....all to no avail.

There is no reverse mechanism on this auger. What else can we do?

Thank you!

Get a shovel

You can dig it out. Not an easy solution, but it's probaly stuck or wrapped around a root or wedged on a rock.

If you can disconnect the drive head from the auger bit, you might see if you can attach some type of bar to the top of the bit to try to turn it to free it up.

If you can't unscrew it from the ground by both of you holding onto the auger and walking around it counterclockwise, there's only one thing to do. Start digging.

Sounds like you need to lift it up out of the ground more often as you dig. Or maybe it hit a tree root.

Thanks for the replies. The guy from the rental place and my husband got it out after about an hour. It was in clay that was really saturated from recent rain.
