ceramic tile on a deck
I am in the process of screening in my deck. Can I install ceramic tile on the deck AFTER I lay backer board? I know to use exterior-rated tile with a textured or non-glazed surface.
Thanks for your time

You can install the cement board and lay tile. The biggest problem you might run into is a lot of times deck framing isn't as hefty as house framing. Often the floor joist size is smaller due to a lighter load. If the floor joists are under sized you may have problems with the tile/grout cracking

I second Mark's statement. I had a lady call me to install cbu for a future tile job. I told her the framing should be boosted to handle the load and keep it from cracking. She declined to do that, and I declined to do the job. She had someone else do it, tile installed and it cracked terribly. Just one of those satisfying told ya so incidents.
