10 x 20 Deck Beam and Joist Span

I am currently getting ready to build a 10x20 deck on the back of the house. The house is on a shallow crawl and I am only able to use 2x6 joists due to height limitations. Can someone let me know if these spans are correct for what I want to do:

1. 2x6 - 10' Southern Pine joists spaced 12" OC (perpendicular to rim joist)
2. 4x4 beam or double 2x6 beam if they will fit w/o excavation
3. 4x4 posts in Simpson brackets on 42" footings spaced every 5'
4. 5/4 cedar deck boards

I realize that I am about at the maximum span for a 2x6 at 10' even with spacing at 12"OC. Can I cantilever the deck out 12"-18" to cut down the span and reduce bounce?

Thanks

Use the 2X6's at 12" O.C., with a 12" to 18" cantalever, and you'll be fine. My concern is using a 4X4 for the beam!! That is simply too small. Use a 4X6, or doubled 2X6's for the beam, and space your posts 5' apart.

Thanks for the information. I will use the doubled 2x6 beam instead of the 4x4. I figured the 4x4 was going to be undersized anyway but it never hurts to get another opinion.
