supporting porch roof

hello, i am replacing my covered porch with vinyl posts and rail, also the deck with fir tongue and groove. i have a couple of qestions. what is the proper way to support the existing roof? also, while i will be using the same number of posts, i want to move them so it will be equally spaced. are there any major concerns with moving them. thanks and i'm sure there will be more questions to follow.

Although you will be using vinyl posts, you will need to install vertical substantial (wood or metal) posts and wrap them with the vinyl. You will need to maintain a vertical support from the roof to the ground (footing). If you move a bottom support, you will need to move the support holding the roof.
