Question Temporary Paver Patio Question

I will be installing a paver patio NEXT spring. In the mean time, I need to install a small 2' x 3' patio for my grill due to an unlevel yard. I plan on using 12" x 12" stepping stones over a gravel/sand base. Only the grill will reside on the mini-patio.

Will this be suitable as a temporary fix until the patio is installed? And also, how much gravel/sand will be needed?

Thanks.

Here's a thought, if its really temporary. Make a 4 sided frame out of PT 2 x 4. Level that by digging if necessary where you want to put it. Put about 2 inches of packed and tamped stone (paver base?) dust in, so that when pavers are put on top, they are just even or above the edge of the frame. Fill in the gaps with paver sand. It would raise your grill a few inches, but most times that wouldn't hurt too much. That will keep all the stuff from falling out into the yard, and be very easy to remove when the time comes.
