Old deck, need to paint or stain?(PICS)

Hi there I have an old deck that needs to be protected. I am not sure what route to go. The railing is newer and has a dark brown stain on it already and would like to match it. anyone have some i deas on making it look good again? Here are some pics to give ya an idea what im talking about.

Welcome to the forums!

First you need to wash the deck. It would probably benifit from the use of a deck stripper - that will almost remove all the current coating. Be sure to rinse well! A pressure washer works best but a garden hose will work also.

Once dry you can apply the stain of your choice - oil base, waterborne or latex. I'd recomend a quality waterborne semi-transparent stain. As with most coatings you will find better quality at your local paint store - not a big box paint dept.
