Exterior posts bolted to fascia, or cut fascia?

I am using posts bolted onto the outside of my rim joist. Should I put on the fascia (1x8 tigerwood), and bolt the posts outside of that, or should I bolt to the rim joist, and cut the fascia for each post?

Thanks!

I had a similar Q on the deck I'm building, as it calls for solid wood skirting (vertical 5/4 x 6's) and runs up/under the decking with a 1x4 trim horizontal. My posts will be notched 1.5 inches though, so I'm going to overlap the joist instead of the trim. I'll notch out the trim so it goes around the posts.
