Is red cedar OK for our new deck?
Well, we had considered TimberTech XLM which put us way over budget. Didn't realize the cost of a simple railing for our 585 sq.ft. project, which added 2K to our 3K for the planks.
OK, now considering western red cedar 2x6 planks which are/were advertised in our area for about 75 cents a L/F.
Probably, pre-drilling is not necessary. Not sure.
Are there any tricks of the trade when buying red cedar? What I know about lumber would fit in a gnat's watch pocket.
Thank you in advance

Well, as usual, I got things WRONG.
The cedar advertised is Port Orford cedar. Advertised price was right, but carpenter I talked to said it might be sub-standard as usual price is $1.25 LF.
Any tricks of the trade when buying Port Orford cedar? Are there various grades? Is there a "clear heart" like redwood?
