2nd flr porch

I am building a porch outside a second floor bedroom. The porch will be protected by a roof overhang, however, I've been told I still have to worry about the elements. Any suggestions whether the porch floor should be slate, roofing material, etc? The porch is on top of finished living space, so I am concerned about water damage.

I wouldn't worry about water damage if it's pitched correctly. What's the base floor going to be, pressure treated wood? I'd be more concerned with blocking access to the roof under it.

I'm not sure I understand your answer- What to you mean "blocking access to the roof under it?" Are you referring to water, etc., or do you mean security-wise?
