Patio...fabric underneath?

Hi quick question. Our soil is real clay based. I'm all dug out and ready to put in the gravel base (for a brick patio). I'm not sure if I should lay landscaping fabric underneath or on top of the gravel base. What's best? If it helps, I live in Seattle where it rains a lot and there are some obnoxious weeds that have entered the area from time to time. Any advice? What would be most protected from bad weeds? Thanks!

You don't want ANY fabric under the pavers. Just the bare dirt, the crushed base, the sand and then the pavers.

Lefty, thanks for the reply I didn't know to not use fabric. A couple of articles I read suggested to use a layer of thin landscaping fabric to prevent weeds. They said to put fabric down, then gravel base, sand, bricks. Could the fabric screw up my tampering? Thanks again.

Fabric under the base will prevent the base from compacting properly. Those advising its use don't live in an area where it rains about 8 months out of the year like we do.
