Question Extending outer joist of deck

I'm expanding my deck, and am looking for suggestions on how to extend the outer joist and face board. My deck is built with double joist around the perimeter (one acting as a face board). I'd rather not replace the full joists, but instead extend out from them.

Should I butt the new joist section with the existing joist? If so, how do I attach the two? Or, should I overlap the inner joist and somehow butt up the outer joists together?

I'm looking for not only what works the best, but also what will look the best.

Thanks.

There is no reason to touch the existing deck. You can build a free standing deck as close as you want to it & it will appear that it is all one. You can use a couple of 4 inch L brackets to connect them if you really feel that you need the extra stability.
