My question is regarding the order of new outdoor enhancements. I have plans to add a cement slab across the entire back length of my house, then add a privacy fence/pergola at one end, and a screened porch on the other end. I got a quote from some contractors on the whole project, and it was rather intense. I currently have enough money to complete the concrete slab OR the privacy fence/pergola. Should I begin one of them? If so, which one? Can the fence guy build around the slab or should the concrete guy come after the fence guy? Would the slab be strong enough to support a porch or would new footers have to be installed? Should I keep saving and have it all done at once? I'd really like to start enjoying my back yard in the near future!
